Oldham County Earns First District Win, 43-12, Over Fern Creek

Oldham County improved to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in the District with a resounding 43-12 victory over the Tigers
of Fern Creek in a steady rain at Fern Creek High School.

The rain made footing treacherous and the football slippery.  As a result, the two teams combined for
countless turnovers, including six in the first half alone.

The Colonels dominated the game with strong defense, which repeatedly gave the Colonels great field
position.  And though the offense sputtered at times, they were very efficient at others.  Four first half
possessions in the red zone resulted in three touchdowns and a Nick Hoover field goal.

With the score 24-12 early in the third period, linebacker Jason Rimmer intercepted a pass from Fern Creek
quarterback Donnie Dolson and returned it 55 yards for a touchdown, killing off a Tiger rally and keying a 19-0
Colonel run to close out the game.

The turnover return for a touchdown was remniscent of last year's game in Buckner, when Rimmer returned a
fumble near midfield for a score.  That touchdown also came in the third period, when Fern Creek was
threatening to get back into the game.

Due to the fact the game was televised by cable, and the Fern Creek press box is extremely small, the
SportsZone radio crew announced the game in the rain in the bleachers.  As such, statistics and game
information was not kept, resulting in this short recap.
