SOUTH OLDHAM LADY DRAGONS WHIP GALLATIN COUNTY;
ADVANCE TO RE-MATCH WITH THE LADY COLONELS

South Oldham moved to a 8-17 on the season with their second victory in a row, routing Gallatin County in the
first round of the 31st District Tournament.

The previous matchup between these two teams had yielded a 79-70 South victory, but the game had been close
thanks to the outside bombs of a sharpshooting Gallatin County squad.  The Lady Dragons were determined not
to let the outcome be in doubt this time...

After leading by only a point, 13-12, after one quarter, the Lady Dragons began to assert their height advantage at
both ends of the court early in the second period.  Melissa Hayes and Ashley Staude controlled the defensive
boards, and were able to key quick outlet passes, resulting in easy baskets.  On the offensive end of the court,
Staude, Hays, and 5-10 Emily Cobb dominated against the smaller Lady Wildcats.  After South Oldham outscored
Gallatin, 10-2, to start the period, Gallatin County called time out to stop the hemorrhage.  In the end, they didn't
have enough band-aids to stop the Dragon onslaught.

Unlike Spencer County and Eastern, two late season opponents who defeated South thanks in part to their ability
to get Melissa Hayes in foul trouble, Gallatin was unable to get South's lone senior in any serious foul problems.
And when the 5-10 senior - who averages a double-double at 12 points and 10 rebounds a game  - is in the game,
the Lady Dragons are much more dangerous.  Gallatin simply couldn't "measure up."
